Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker player on the globe by most of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to discover whatever he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the adverse feedback from others destroy his goal of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

He began playing seriously after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated a number of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and a continuing love for poker. Phil states that he is picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his success. Phil knows he makes errors every single session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
