Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandpa showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to discover every little thing he possibly could about poker. He routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the negative feedback from other people annihilate his ambition of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.
Phil began competing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and a continuing passion for the game of poker. He states that he is learning every single day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making blunders in each session of poker and always strives to improve.
Although Ivey has won some big tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
