Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most complicated but favored poker games. It is a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites play from every level of players. This is the main reason why a once obscure game, has expanded in acceptance so quickly.

Omaha hi lo begins exactly like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are handed out to every player. A sequence of wagering follows in which players can bet, check, or fold. 3 cards are dealt out, this is referred to as the flop. Another sequence of wagering ensues. After all the players have in turn called or dropped out, a further card is revealed on the turn. a further round of wagering happens and then the river card is flipped. The players will need to make the strongest high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is the point where many players get flustered. Contrasted to Hold’em, in which the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi/low the player must use exactly three cards on the board, and precisely two hole cards. No more, no less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot can be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is just what it sounds like. It’s the best hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the same concept in almost every poker game.

A low hand is more difficult, but certainly free’s up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. A low hand is the worst hand that could be put together, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and lower. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there’s no low hand presented, the high hand wins the entire pot.

Although it seems complicated at the outset, after a couple of rounds you will be able to get the basic nuances of the game simply enough. Seeing as you have players betting for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as so many cards are being used at the same time, Omaha/8 provides an amazing array of wagering choices and owing to the fact that you have several individuals shooting for the high hand, as well as many battling for the low. If you prefer a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to compete in Omaha 8 or better.
