Howard Lederer was born into in a family of five where he loved betting on different card games at a young age. He found himself getting really competitive in these particular card games while competing against his dad. After finishing Sr. High school, Howard made a decision to place higher education on hold for a little while and headed to New York to play some big-time chess. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the greatest gamblers would frequently compete against one another. Howard had access into several of the best minds in chess. With their help, Howard would tweak his strategic thinking skills. He used these strategic ideas in the game of No-Limit Texas Holdem.

Howard also assisted his sibling Annie Duke learn the game of poker. Annie was an excellent student of poker as she would consistently be asking questions about the right way to make the correct decision. Howard told Annie to move out to Vegas and play in the World Series of Poker competition. She is one of the strongest women players the poker world ever. Howard Lederer moved to Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and played cash games for the successive 10 years. When the WPT grew in popularity, he decided to participate in more tournaments.
