Web High Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen
by Alejandro on December 19th, 2020
Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only participant to make it to the final table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a massive pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the strongest bettors around the world. While betting on internet poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. He often competes in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus frequently buys in for the min of $16, 000 and gambles very weak. He waits patiently for a good hand and then goes all in. I know Gus is a great poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is penniless, he has little or no reason to settle at the game with the minimum buy in.
Playing for the minimum takes a majority of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be one of the best poker players in the world but he cannot buy in for the total dollar value. I believe television can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The best players in the world may be players you have won’t have heard about. Gus can be seen playing web poker on Full Tilt. He generally competes in high stakes Omaha and Holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his abilities in money rounds?
