Internet High Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?
by Alejandro on January 1st, 2016
Gus Hansen had a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to make it to the last table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a huge pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best enthusiasts anywhere in the world. While competing in internet poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. He frequently plays in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus frequently buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I believe Hansen is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is broke, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the table with the minimum buy in.
Buying in for the min takes most of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be 1 of the best poker players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total amt.. I believe television can skew our perception of the real world every now and then. The best players anywhere in the world could be guys you have will not have heard of. Gus can be seen betting on web poker on Full Tilt. He normally participates in big stakes omaha eight-or-better and texas hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he use his abilities in money rounds?
