Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is often times viewed as one of the most difficult but well-loved poker variations. It is a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for play from all levels of players. This is the primary reason why a once obscure game, has grown in acceptance so amazingly.

Omaha Hi-Lo starts like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are handed out to each player. A round of betting follows where players can wager, check, or drop out. 3 cards are handed out, this is referred to as the flop. A further round of betting happens. Once all the players have either called or folded, an additional card is flipped on the turn. Another sequence of wagering happens at which point the river card is flipped. The players will have to make the strongest high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is the point where many entrants get flustered. Contrasted to Texas Holdem, in which the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi/low the player must use precisely 3 cards on the board, and exactly two cards from their hand. No more, no less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot could be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It is the best possible hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the identical concept in nearly every poker game.

A low hand is more difficult, but really free’s up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that can be put together, with the worst being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and lower. The low hand takes half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there’s no lower hand presented, the high hand wins the complete pot.

It may seem complex at first, following a couple of hands you will be able to get the fundamental subtleties of the game with ease. Seeing as you have individuals wagering for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as so many cards are in play, Omaha/8 provides an exciting assortment of betting possibilities and owing to the fact that you have several players battling for the high, as well as a few battling for the low hand. If you prefer a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to participate in Omaha 8 or better.
