In Texas Holdem, the first step is to get the game started, and for this the competitors put out a set sum of money. ‘Posting the blinds’ is the commonly used expression for this play. In the following step, the croupier shuffles the cards and deals two cards face down to all players. A normal deck of 52 playing cards is used. Then there is the initial round of wagering. This round is often referred to as a "pre-flop".

After the first wagering sequence, the first card of the deck is thrown away. This thrown away card is referred to as the "burn card", and this is done to guarantee that there is definitely no dishonestly. The next 3 cards are then flipped face up on the table. These cards are ‘the flop’. Now comes a 2nd round of betting, after that the dealer tosses out an additional card and flips one more card onto the poker table. After this, participants can use the sixth card to form a 5card poker hand.

A further sequence of betting follows, and in a number of styles of games, here is where the wager size doubles. There is an additional round of tossing aside a card, and a final placing of a card face-up on the table. This is called the "river". Bettors can now use any of the five cards on the poker table, and/or the 2 cards that they hold, to create a five-card poker hand.

To wrap it up there’s an additional sequence of betting. After that, all the remaining players begin to show their hands. This is known as the "showdown". Clearly, the competitor who has the greatest hand wins. When gamblers have even hands a sharing of the pot is used.

Texas Holdem is a simple game to pick up, but to acquire knowledge one needs a lot of studying.
